Shaking Things Up

I’ve been on vacation.

It was a much-needed, relaxing, and warm vacation in Hawaii and now I’m back home in New Jersey, freezing, sore from shoveling, and dealing with jet lag. But I’m not complaining–if that’s what it takes to go on vacation, sign me up.

So that’s why I haven’t posted in a few weeks, except for the #WATWB on the last Friday of 2017. But now I’m back with new energy and a couple new ideas for Reade and Write.

I would like to start an online book club. My idea is to host a book discussion on the last Tuesday of each month.

It wouldn’t start until March because I have the last Tuesdays booked up until then. But I figure that would just give us more time to read our first book. I’ll choose the first book and the second book, then take suggestions for the books after that. My plan is to ask readers to make book suggestions in the comments on the last Tuesday of the month, then I’ll pick a title out of a hat and schedule that book for two months later.

How does that sound to you? Would you be interested in participating?

Another idea I have is to make the first Tuesday of each month a day to share new recipes with readers. I figure this is a sneaky way to force me to put more new meals into my family’s monthly rotation. And I would love to share recipes that readers have tried, too. If you try a new recipe that’s a keeper (or if you have an old favorite that’s new to us!), email the recipe or the link to me at amymreadeauthor@gmail.com and I’ll print it in the first Tuesday’s post.

That leaves two, and sometimes three, posts in the middle of the month during which I’ll still showcase author interviews, book recommendations, and other posts. My goal is to inject some predictability into my weekly posting.

Do you have other ideas you’d like to see on Reade and Write? Please let me know in the comments below.

Here’s my pick for The Last Tuesday Book Club in March: The Art Forger by B.A. Shapiro. It was written in 2013, so it should be available in most libraries.

Until next time,

Amy

  1. I will try to participate in your book club from time to time. My TBR is out of control and I belong to a couple of other book clubs, so my time for picking up any new reading is limited. I will definitely participate in your recipe blog though.

  2. Yes, please, Amy – book club and recipes – I have wanted to read The Art Forger for a while, so you’ve ‘talked’ me into it 😉
Hawaii sounds amazing … how lucky you are. I’d love to visit there too. The big chill hasn’t hit us here, so we can’t really complain about the weather (although we still do)
Anyway, stay warm and make something wonderful 🙂

    1. Excellent! I’m looking forward to starting my copy. Hawaii was indeed wonderful. Low 80s every day, and those trade winds…I never want to leave there. Stay warm!!

  3. Welcome back Amy. Sounds like a dream holiday! I can’t wait for my holiday to get out of this cold! Great ideas for your blog! I’ll visit but have my own lengthy reading list that I really want to get through but look forward to new recommends. 🙂

    1. Those reading lists can get pesky, can’t they? I look forward to your visits and hope we can recommend some good books for you! I’m sure you can’t wait to get out of the cold…these past few weeks must have been brutal for you.

      1. Thanks Amy. Yes, last week was brutal for much of the East coast. At least the temps are a balmy 32 degrees now LOL, better than minus 30! I hear the beach calling me. 🙂

  4. What a great idea! But I’m like some of your other commenters – I already have such a long TBR list. And a book club I belong to here in NE. May I enter in once in a while? I read The Art Forger, so maybe I can get into the discussion. At some point, maybe you could focus on Indie authors every other month or so. There are a lot of good books out there that don’t get regular exposure.
And recipes – I’m tired of my same ole ones, so yes, count me in. I’ll e-mail you one of my easy peasy seafood ones, because I know I’m always looking for new/different/easy ways to cook fish. Welcome home!

    1. Woo hoo! Sounds great–I’d love to have you participate in discussions whenever you’ve got the time. Good idea with the indie authors, too. And as for the recipes, excellent! I found one just today for seafood enchiladas that I’d like to try.

    2. P.S. As I mentioned to Sharon, below, I think the second month the book will be Stolen Memories by Mary Miley Theobald. Though she has been traditionally published, that particular book was self-pubbed.

  5. I am interested in your book club. I read a lot but never enough time for my TBR list. And recipes are always welcome.

    1. That’s great!! I know how you feel about the TBR list. Mine is a mile long. But I just got back from the library, where I picked up The Art Forger. I can’t wait to start it!

I tried a taco soup recipe last night that’s going in February’s recipe post. It was delicious!

Thanks for dropping in. Looking forward to seeing you again for the book club!

  6. Glad you had a nice vacation. You certainly earned it.

Reading and recipes, you can’t go wrong with those two topics!

It’s funny, I was about to ask you what we were going to read next. I hope you intend to throw another gothic writer in the mix. I would like to read something a little newer than the last two. I am still trying to wrap my head around what Gothic means. But I will get there!

Have a wonderful week, and stay warm!

    1. That is funny, because I was thinking the very same thing–I’d like to add a Gothic writer to the list. I’m thinking Mary Miley Theobald, who wrote a Gothic novel called Stolen Memories. That will probably be the April book. It sounds great–you can find the blurb on Amazon.

Have a great week! It’s getting warmer here–the temp is above freezing today. Yay!
