O, Christmas Tree

Porthos (L) and Athos. They look almost harmless in this photo.

This week I thought I’d try my hand at rewriting the lyrics to the centuries-old tune, “O, Christmas Tree.” Sing along if you’d like!

O Christmas tree,

O Christmas tree,

How my two cats

Adore you

O, Christmas tree,

O, Christmas tree,

How my two cats

Adore you

You’re hung with ornaments so bright

The cats both bat them through the night

O, Christmas tree, O Christmas tree

How my two cats adore you

O Christmas tree,

O Christmas tree,

Your needles

They are lovely

O Christmas tree,

O Christmas tree,

Your needles

They are lovely

Though they are fake the cats still chew

And then they vomit close to you

O, Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,

Your needles, they are lovely

O, Christmas tree,

O, Christmas tree,

The cats would love

To climb you

O, Christmas tree,

O, Christmas tree,

The cats would love

To climb you

But you are fake because of them

Your trunk is smooth, so less mayhem

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,

The cats would love to climb you.

I almost forgot! Last week I had my first (but hopefully not my last) YouTube interview! It was a lot of fun. If you want to learn a little more about The Worst Noel and see what a life-sized Bobble Head looks like, please tune in. I had no idea I nodded so much when I listen and talk. Click here for the link. Many thanks to Michelle at Writing Fun for the interview!

I will not be posting next Tuesday (Christmas Day), so I’d like to wish you a very merry Christmas if you celebrate and a happy holiday season if you don’t.

Until next time,

Amy

  1. Fun re-writing of O Christmas Tree, Amy. I’m sure you’ve sung it to your two cats, right? I look forward to watching your You Tube video (but it will have to wait until next week when all the craziness is over). I was interviewed for a half-hour local TV program this fall about my children’s book, and like you, I was, um, a bit surprised at how I looked. That was ME?
    Merry Merry Christmas. ❤

  2. Hahah, adorable! We used to keep all the fragile ornaments up near the top. Elliot, our Bengal cat, amused himself with the bottom third of the tree. We made sure some of the unbreakables were shiny as he loved them best.

    1. That’s a great idea–put the unbreakable ones near the bottom so the cats are free to play! Why didn’t I think of that? They also love the tree skirt because the sides are tied together with ribbons. You know how cats are with ribbons. Right now the tree skirt is completely off the base of the tree, where the cats left it last. Thanks for visiting and merry Christmas! Or should I say Feliz Navidad?

  3. Mine haven’t been too interested (so far). I don’t hang ornaments on the bottom branches to lessen temptation. Olive likes to sleep underneath.

    1. We used to have a real tree, but our other cats (Faust and Shadow, who passed away several years ago) would climb them and get stuck in the branches. We used to keep ornaments off the bottom branches because of the kids!!

      1. We are sadly (and for first time in our lives) catless at the moment. But I remember when we used to set up the tree each year, the cats would be all, “For me? You shouldn’t have…”

Inevitably there would be a crash and disaster. When we’d run in, there would be no sign of the cats, just the fall-dog they’d left strategically positioned to take all the blame.

      2. Dogs are treated mercilessly by their feline siblings. The worst crash-and-disaster we’ve ever had was actually caused by my then-two-year-old daughter (she’s twenty now), who thought it might be fun to push on the tree over and over again until it fell down. I was nursing a newborn at the time and powerless to stop her. To this day, whenever she’s tempted to say something snarky, I remind her of that. It usually shuts her up.
