Welcome! I am an author of Gothic, contemporary, and cozy mysteries. You can find my books by clicking on the tab above. A former lawyer, I now write full-time in New Jersey, where I live with my family.
My blog is a place where I write whatever comes to mind, which may or may not include reading, writing, food, and wine. I usually post on Tuesdays, but I reserve the right to post more often when I have something really, really important to say or I find something amazing I want to share.
When I’m not writing, you will find me in the kitchen or the laundry room, but I much prefer the kitchen. I love to cook and share the things I make. In my spare time, besides cooking, I love to read and travel.

Hi Amy! I just wanted to stop by and see what type of books you write. I find it so interesting to read about people’s journeys to becoming authors. One of the people in my critique group is also a retired lawyer. I’m just trying to navigate these waters as I start the journey in retirement. The best part of being a teacher for thirty-one years was to get paid to read stories to kids. (Isn’t that the trick—getting paid to do something you love?) I am the youngest of four boys living in California, but one of my brothers settled in Warren, New Jersey.

Hi, Pete! Glad to know you. Yes, it sounds like your job as a teacher must have been very rewarding. I don’t think I have the stamina or the patience to do a job like that, so I think teachers are superheroes. I bet you’ll find retirement rewarding, too, especially if you’ve joined the community of writers and bloggers. It’s such a welcoming and generous place to be. Welcome!

Tink here. Bumped into you at Sally’s End-of-Summer Party but we didn’t spend any time together so I had to check you out. Mom used to camp in NJ (all those years she lived in NYC). Good to see you live with a dog – but MUCH bigger than I am. Shih Tzus don’t get all that big anyway, and I am on the small size. Mom’s gonna’ put your books on something she calls her TBR list.
HAPPY DOG DAY to you and Orly. If Orly writes anything, be sure to leave a link on any of my articles and I’ll move it up.

Hi Tink,
I should have posted a photo of Orly for Dog Day, but it slipped my mind. I told her all about you and she said to say hi. She’s asleep right now. It’s been a long morning of squirrel patrol and otherwise keeping the place safe from four-legged varmints that end up in the backyard sometimes. Good to meet you!

We don’t really have a back yard, but we do have a space behind our apartment with disappearing squirrels. Mom says “look up” but that makes no sense since they WERE on the ground. My biggest problem is with the new dogs who moved in — they think they own the place, and Mom won’t even let me bark at them.

I almost got hit by a car chasing a rabbit yesterday! And I totally feel your pain about the pesky squirrels. They’re always headed up when I’m looking down. 🙂

Mom would have had a heart-attack! The door to our apt. opens onto a short dead-end side street with only a sidewalk first. A man was zooming thru just as we were coming out and she fell over trying to grab me – and I was on my leash. I would have laughed if she hadn’t been so scared.

Just read your interview at Fiona’s site. You had me at the question of your age — great answer. It’s funny first I discovered your blog because I interviewed Fiona, and you commented, and then I went to Fiona’s site and there you were again. Going to order your book this evening. The Fiona interview was a huge learning experience for me – I am re-writing it. Fiona is very special, and after taking a couple of days to read and re-read her answers I realized that a re-do was in order. I look forward to reading your book.

Wow- you just made my day! I hadn’t heard of Fiona until recently, when I started following her Facebook page. She’s quite a marvel. I want to do something more for her than just share her posts and promote my own interview on her site, but I don’t know what to do. Maybe I should interview her, too. I have recently begun a new Reader Spotlight series on my blog. She might be a great reader to interview. What do you think?
I’m thrilled that you’re going to check out my book. I really hope you enjoy it. I’m off to check out your site again!
Thank you!

I think you should interview her too. I would love to include you in my recommended blogs round up and include the links to your books and your interview with Fiona – okay?

I just sent her the Reader Spotlight questions. I’d love it if you included Reade and Write in your recommended blog round-up. By all means! And thank you. 🙂

Hi Ginny! I’m thrilled to hear that you enjoyed Secrets of Hallstead House. I know from your Facebook post that you learned the title of my second book, The Ghosts of Peppernell Manor, and you’ll see in my Facebook comment that I invited you to sign up for my newsletter. I’m giving away a pre-order of my third book, House of the Hanging Jade, in December. It won’t be out until April 2016, but the winner will have it on his or her ereader as soon as it comes out. I’m so glad you stopped by. Thanks for commenting!

Hello Amy,
Nice blog. I know of bouvier des Flandres, I have heard that they are great guard dogs, and very nice. I love to cook, even if I don’t get to sample any of the food I make, because cooking is one of my favorite things to do.
I can’t wait until your book comes out! I probably will be one of the first to read it!

Hi, Hayley,
Thanks for stopping by. Like every other dog owner, I think my dog is the best dog in the world. And too bad you can’t sample your own food! That’s the best part of cooking!
